What Grief Reveals

“You can pretend for a long time.  You can make people think something about you for a long time.  But when suffering hits, when pain strikes, when tragedy comes, who you really are – what makes you YOU- the stuff about you that is down deep  – inevitably comes out.  Whatever masks you have been wearing go away.  Whatever pretense you have been manufacturing goes away.  There you are standing showing the world what you are really made of.”

  1. This is so true, Candy. Watching how my husband’s sweetness still came out when a very damaged heart and four months of ICU hospitalization squeezed the life out of him, was a testimony of the real jewel of a man he was, through and through. He made me so proud to be his wife!
